Malta
#13 Malta – August 2023 – Age: 29
This was our next hobbit trip and the first we were able to get the elusive Marco on. Despite his “flexibility” as a budding young actor, he’s remarkably difficult to tie down to plans.
This will be a short post. I was mooning over some recent Hinge failure and was looking for a relaxing long weekend in the sun which is what we got. We found the first available breakfast spot which we hit each morning, before plodding down to a lido type pool bathed in sunshine. We sat here 2-3 days on the trot getting sloshed and nattering. There was one very attractive older lady, with a child and an unassuming, unattractive (I had my elbows out given my spurned state) who kept checking me out, so I reciprocated but obviously did nothing for all 3 days. Love it when that happens. Ah… what could have been…
We made the most of the nights out, hitting up Sliema one night, at Exiles which was fantastic – home to some excellent crowd-pleasing live music and general consensus was we spotted the greatest ass of all time on one girl who decided to have a little dance with us… the better night, shooting across on the ferry to central Valletta and exploring the sites, including the Old Town and the Bastion. A recent festival had occurred (I think independence day), so this was rather wild, topiary and ornate decorations in abundance. Having slotted some nice cocktails and eaten some delicious local food, we got e-scooters and explored the city by night in this rather brits abroad fashion, completely plastered.
The last day was very much a rinse and repeat – we found a slightly swankier, exclusive rooftop pool and bar and chilled in the sun all day. Ironically, dear Marco and his fair ginger hair and pale skin chose to come on the one hobbit holiday largely devoted to bathing in the 30 degree heat (or cowering in the shade rather).
